Ooh ahh… I snapped my bra!

My current mission at the moment is to find a decent bra. In the last 2 months the under-wire in two of my Bendon bras and one of my loveable bras have snapped! Devastated! I paid over $50 and I don’t think this is fair at all. I bought them because I thought they were good brands and I didn’t expect them to just snap on me after only 2 months.

When I’m shopping with friends, they can pick up a bra in their size and say, Ooo I like that, and just buy it without even trying it on! My size changes all the time from store to store, from brand to brand and from bra to bra. I have to take at least fifteen different bras into the change room only to walk out with one that fits properly – if I’m lucky!

So now I am on a mission to find a good fitting bra. This could take a while, but I’m now down to only one bra! There is no time to waste, I am desperate. I have one trick up my sleeve where I can take the wire from the good cup of one of my snapped bras and replace it with the snapped wire. Then I can just sew it back up and ta da… I just have to choose which bra I will need to sacrifice…

Wish me luck and I will keep you updated in the adventures of Kirsten finding a decent bra!

Hens Day Extravaganza!

We celebrated my best friends hens day on the weekend. I am ‘head bridesmaid’ (maid-of-honour was fine – but I’m married, so it’s supposed to be matron-of-honour – eww – I think I’ll stick with head bridesmaid!) so it was a big deal and very important that the bride-to-be had a fantastic day/night.

When I asked BTB (Bride-to-be) what she would like to do on her hens day she quickly confirmed that she would like to go to the races. I asked her when she was thinking of having her hens day – she said in March. I asked her if she would like a marquee – she said yes. I asked her if she wanted to share this marquee or if she wanted to have her own – she said she would prefer her own. So I set off on a mission to find a racecourse who would provide all these things. Do you think I could find one? No. I cruised the net and rang all the major race courses and even the ones in the country. Apparently there are not a lot of race meetings in March. Damn! I quickly came to the conclusion that a marquee was out of the question. So I started looking for the next best thing. I found that Caulfield Racecourse had a race meeting two weeks before the wedding – Thouroughbred Cup Day. They also had a restaurant that provided a carvery luncheon – with dessert (very important!), entry to the racecourse, race guide and the table was also held all day so that we had somewhere to leave our things while we went outside to cheer the horses on and place our bets. All this for $50!! Entry to the racecourse is $30 alone, so this was well worth it! The food was delicious and the atmosphere was really fun.

BTB + Me

My sister and I made the invitations ourselves. We used a picture of Dita Von Tesse and replaced her face with the BTB’s. We included information about the day then saved them on a disk and had them printed on photos. So cheap (10 cents per copy!!) and easy. They turned out really well. We then sent them out and waited for everyone to RSVP and transfer their payments. I don’t think anyone really appreciates an RSVP date until they organise something with a deadline. After endless messages and follow ups I managed to confirm final numbers and payments 2 weeks before the day – two weeks after the RSVP date. Never mind, it was all arranged in time… just!

Hens Day invitations

The two other bridesmaids and I exchanged numbers and email addresses so we could bounce ideas off each other for what to do after the races.
BTB already knew everything we were up to during the day, so we decided to surprise her later that night. I suggested this fantastic place called ‘The Riva’ in St. Kilda. It is a gorgeous bar located on the marina. There is a dining area where you can have a meal and a bar area where we can carve up the dance floor later on in the night. There is also an outside deck where fairy lights have been hung between palm trees in front of the beach. It was just gorgeous and the perfect place to keep celebrating. Everyone had a ball and really enjoyed themselves.

We also organised games and the usual hens day accessories for the day.
– BTB and bridesmaid flashing sashes. A girl I didn’t even know pinched my sash at the bar. When I asked her for it back she ran away and
disappeared for the rest of the night!
– Veil with condoms attached
– Shot glass with light up penis
– Penis dummy necklace
– Hottie whistle – blow when you see a hottie
– Penis straws
– Singlet with lifesaver lollies strategically sewn on – BTB was made to ask the guys to bite them off with their teeth!
– Finally, the Pièce de résistance – a blow up doll, with 7 inch penis (according to the box). Hilarious! The bouncer at the racecourse didn’t think so. After 20 seconds of BTB posing with the blow-up doll, he confiscated it from us! We weren’t the only ones not happy about it – the whole racecourse were booing him!

We also got a deck of ‘dare’ cards. They were a hit and everyone got involved with them throughout the day.

Dare Cards

Here are a few of my favourites:

– Ask a guy to take his shirt off and flex his muscles – the Mother of the groom got on this one and the guy in question removed not only his top, but his pants too and struck a pose for my camera!

The guy asked to flex his muscles!?

– Write your name in lipstick across a guy’s chest – a friend agreed to this bet. The first guy she asked had a really hairy chest (and I mean hairy!) so she told him she had come to the wrong group and asked someone else! The next guy ripped his shirt off and away she went. She then returned the favour later to a Bucks party when they wrote their name in lipstick across her chest!

Writing name in Lipstick

– Ask a guy with a ponytail why he hasn’t had a haircut in years – BTB did this, and this guy did not find it funny at all! Has nobody told him that a guy with long hair is so 1998. If looks could kill….

Guy with ponytail and no sense of humour

– Drink from a strangers drink without permission – it really is amazing what you can get away with when you are wearing a veil!

Drink from a stranger's drink without permission

I also have to give a shout out to BTB’s work friend. She is in her late 30’s and had a 40 year old man on one side and a 26 year old on the other side, both trying to pick her up! What a cougar – you go girl!

Overall we had a fantastic day with great company and lots of dancing and laughs! Now, I’m really looking forward to the wedding in two weeks time!

Trend Alert: Denim on Denim

Listen up fashionistas – Denim on Denim is back in a major way in 2010. I’m still not sold on this look but I think that if you have the confidence and hold yourself well, then you can pull it off! It’s also about accessorizing correctly. I’m thinking denim shorts, white/printed flowy blouse/singlet, denim vest teamed with flip-flops, light scarf, big sunglasses and lots of bangles for a casual spring/summer look – think Nicole Richie – very boho chic.

Trend Alert: Denim on Denim

Let’s just make sure that we never again have to subject ourselves to the ugliness of matching denim a la Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. I secretly loved this dress when I first saw Britney wearing it. Looking back at it now, I really don’t know what I was thinking!

Got Ink?

Tattoos are now as stylish as designer bags, designer dogs, blackberries and iPhones! Have you noticed how many people are proudly showing off their ink? Even the most fashion conscience stars have been inked. This style of body art has made it to the catwalk, red carpet, small screen big screen.

If you don’t want to make the commitment to permanent ink, some people are even sporting fake tattoos.

The most frequent tattoos I have seen on display are religious symbols like a cross or an astrology sign.
Tribal designs are also everywhere and fairies and butterflies look very feminine.
Writing in a variety of styles and sentimental designs in honour of loved ones such as a name, date or portrait are very popular.
Then of course there are tattoos you would rather forget. Do you remember when Katie Price decided to put a cross through her tattoo, ‘Pete’?(in honour of her Ex, Peter Andre). Or when Johnny Depp had ‘Winona Forever’ in honour of his then-partner Winona Ryder, inked on his bicep only have the ‘na’ removed to change it to, ‘Wino Forever’ when they split.
There are a huge amount of female celebrities who have sat in the chair to get a tattoo. Here is a list of a few repeat offenders:

Rihanna – at least 13 tattoos.
Nicole Richie – 9 tattoos.
Victoria Beckham- at least 4 tattoos.
Angelina Jolie – at least 12 tattoos.
Megan Fox – at least 9 tattoos.
Pink – at least 25 tattoos.
Kat Von D – Rumoured to have over 130 tattoos! Of course some of these have merged into sleeves and she is a tattoo artist.

Got Ink

I have one tattoo and I absolutely love it. It’s on my left wrist and I got it after I was married. It’s our wedding date in Roman numerals –
XXII ◊ XI ◊ MMVIII (22nd November, 2008). I can understand how people can go back for more even though I haven’t… yet. The first you get is usually very special. You really take your time to make sure where you want to put it and if you will still love it in a month or so. After it’s there, the next one is easy. You have one now, so another one won’t hurt… well hopefully not much!

I have been planning my next tattoo for ages and I have decided that I really want a fairy. I haven’t come across one that I really love and could handle to have it on my body for eternity. I’m also not sure where I want to put it either. So if you have any suggestions, let me know!

RuPaul = Fierce!

RuPaul is the most famous drag queen in the world – and my absolute favourite! You can’t help but smile and laugh along with her. She has a beautiful nature, is absolutely charming and outrageous! She also has a rocking body and I would love to meet her and learn how to do my makeup just like her. She is flawless, fabulous and stunningly glamorous and a real inspiration to everyone out there struggling to just be themselves – Go Girl!

The many faces of RuPaul

RuPaul Andre Charles was born in San Diego, California on November 17, 1960. RuPaul is an actor, drag queen, model, singer and songwriter. Quoted as not caring if you called him or her a he or a she, RuPaul shot to fame in the 1990s where he appeared in a variety of television programs, films, and music albums. He was also linked to the nightclub scene in New York and Georgia. He has appeared in a number of roles as RuPaul Charles, the man, and RuPaul the drag queen superstar.

RuPaul Charles

RuPaul also hosts a show called ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’. It is the ultimate drag queen competition. RuPaul is the inspiration for the show and controls all of the judging and eliminations. The man, RuPaul mentors contestants and helps them prepare for challenges in the fight to become America’s next drag superstar. The contestants are aspiring drag queens in America who are glittery, glamorous, stunningly beautiful and absolutely outrageous! Each week the contestants create costumes and strut their stuff down the runway and entertain us with show-stopping performances. The bottom two contestants in the race must lip-synch for their lives in a drag queen showdown. The winner gets to ‘Shante and stay,’ the loser must ‘Sashay away.’

RuPaul's Drag Race

She has some fantastic one liners that absolutely crack me up. She certainly makes a point and here are a few of my favourites:
‘Don’t fuck it up!’
‘Eleganza extravaganza!’
‘If you don’t love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else? Can I get an Amen?’
‘With hair, heels, and attitude, honey, I am through the roof.’
‘We all came into this world naked. The rest is all drag.’
‘Look at me–a big old black man under all of this makeup, and if I can look beautiful, so can you.’
‘I do not impersonate females! How many women do you know who wear seven-inch heels, four-foot wigs, and skin-tight dresses?’

RuPaul also has a new book out called, “Workin It!: RuPaul’s Guide to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Style”. It is said to be more that just a style guide. It’s a book of self-empowerment offering tips about fashion and makeup and encourages us to ‘rise up and be fierce!’ and own your look. She has also had another book published called, ‘Letting It All Hang Out: An Autobiography.’
