Australia’s Next Top Model Oopsie-daisy!

I was watching Australia’s Next Top Model live on Tuesday night. I voted 3 times for Amanda and I really wanted Amanda and Sophie as the top 2 finalists. When Sarah Murdoch called Kelsey’s name first, I was shocked! I was also concerned that Amanda wouldn’t be picked next.

Thankfully, she was and we were left with two nervous finalists on stage. There could only be one winner – too bad they called out the wrong name!

The host, Sarah Murdoch announced the winner as Kelsey Martinovich. Kelsey went on to make an emotional speech of appreciation and gratitude for the show. The runner-up Amanda Ware smiled, clapped, congratulated the winner and thanked the show for the opportunity.

This was until a flash of horror crossed Sarah Murdoch’s face and she gave a tiny gasp. Poor Sarah looked as though she might faint. The audience of 2000 fell silent as Sarah said, “Oh my God, I don’t know what to say right now.” “I’m feeling a bit sick about this. No, I’m so sorry about this. Oh my God. I don’t know what to say. It’s a complete accident. I’m so sorry, it’s Amanda.”

Kelsey immediately responds with, “It’s an honest mistake.” She doesn’t cry or go for the sympathy vote. I really do have to give her a good pat on the back for the way she handled the situation.
Amanda looked slightly embarrassed, however broke the tension by giving a small whoop and smiling. The audience started laughing and a small applause was given to the well-deserved winner.

Sarah explained that the voting was so close and that it kept going back and forth between the two girls. Apparently Amanda won by only 3 votes. I like to think that my 3 votes got her over the line!

I didn’t love Kelsey during the show, I actually thought she was a bit of a bi-atch at times. However both these girls were innocent and had nothing to do with this little oopsie-daisy. They both handled the situation with grace, dignity and professionalism.

As the winner, Amanda was signed to modeling agency Priscilla’s and will fly to New York to meet with the Elite agency. She also won a $25,000 contract to appear in a Levi’s campaign and landed the cover and an eight-page spread for Harper’s Bazaar Australia.

Due to the mix up, Kelsey was given $25,000 cash prize and a trip to New York as compensation. She has now also been given her own Harper’s Bazaar cover which will be featured in the same edition as Amanda’s. The magazine decided that it would have two different covers printed for their next issue featuring Amanda on one and Kelsey on the other. The magazine will be split evenly between the two covers.

This actually annoys me a bit. Amanda still won Australia’s Next Top Model but she has to share her major prize. A magazine cover is a big deal and I don’t think I would be quite as gracious if I had to share it. It seems that Foxtel and Harper’s have made sure Kelsey is looked after, but have they really done the same for Amanda?
Amanda missed out on the huge round of applause she deserved as the winner. She missed out on her win being all about her. She has basically been put on the back-burner while everyone is still going on about the mix up. Ok, we were shocked – but let’s move on. Who cares if Kelsey didn’t win – they have certainly made up for it.
Go Amanda, you got my vote… or 3!

Number 8 Restaurant & Wine Bar at Crown

My husband and I dined together with his cousin and fabulous girlfriend at Number 8 restaurant and wine bar at Crown Casino over the weekend. It was delicious and super ah-maz-ing!

We don’t tend to visit really nice restaurants often. We usually go to places where the food is fantastic, but the actual look of the restaurant isn’t the reason that we go back.

Number 8 was gorgeous to look at featuring high ceilings, river and city views and the food was scrumptious! The table settings were gorgeous with candles on either end that made the room glow. It was a bit squishy, but then again it was a Saturday night and very busy. The wait for our meals wasn’t long and the service was very good.

Another highlight of Number 8 is its extensive wine list of 888 wines, which has won numerous awards. This makes sense now – when we received the wine list it was seriously like the bible. The wine list definitely meant business!

What we had:

Complimentary warm bread with dip – the capsicum dip was sooo good!
Sautéed spinach with roasted pine nuts $7.50.
French Fries – $7.50.
Cocktails – $17.00.
VB Beer – $7.50.

Me
Main: Free-range Bendigo chicken breast, organic white polenta, herb salad, spiced jus – $37.50. (The jus was incredible! Cooked to perfection.)
Dessert: Vanilla crème brûlée – $15.00. (Massive portion. To die!)

Husband
Entrée: Hervey Bay half shell scallops, salt roasted beetroot purée, nasturtium leaves, lemon dressing – $25.00. (My husband couldn’t get enough of this. The beetroot purée was out of this world.)
Main: Roasted Portland lamb rack, rosemary crust, maple roasted baby carrots, lamb jus – $42.00. (Could not fault this dish. Delicious!)

Cousin
Entrée: Slow-roasted high country pork belly, watercress, Puy lentils, hazelnuts and glazed pink lady apples – $24.00. (Amazing.)
Main: Grilled Moreton Bay bugs, preserved lemon butter* – $49.50. (Sadly, the butter was a little burnt. Otherwise, delicious.)

Fabulous girlfriend
Main: Handmade ricotta gnocchi, fresh tomato, basil, Jingilli olive oil – $31.00. (Delicious.)
Dessert: Vanilla crème brûlée – $15.00. (To die.)

Notice how the girls always skip the entrée so there is room for dessert! I’m glad I did though, the Vanilla crème brûlée was beyond and I will definitely go back again just for the dessert! I still cannot believe I couldn’t finish it all.

We really did have a lovely evening. Although the dishes were not huge, they were very tasty. As I explained to my husband, this is the kind of restaurant you go to for the taste, not to get full.

Sex and the City Tour Update!

Hi dolls,

Remember Renee who won the Sex and the City Tour competition a while ago? Well, Renee has now been on the tour and has shared some of her photos with us!

This lucky lady was so sweet, she made sure that I didn’t miss out! I received a Sex and the City mug from the tour in the post a few days ago! I love presents! The mug has a quote from the series that I actually live by – ‘Shopping is my cardio’. So generous, thankyou so much! I’m so glad you enjoyed the tour. A gift from Kit!

My husband came in with a parcel for me yesterday. He had opened the metre box and the package was hiding in there with the slip from the postman advising me that the package had been left in the meter box… handy. It had been sitting in the meter box for about a month.
My annoyance was quickly swapped for excitement! I love getting packages. They’re like little surprises – especially when you have been on eBay spending big the week before.
But I hadn’t been on eBay for ages so I had no idea what it could be. I tore open the package and out popped a Kit Cosmetics bag! Eeeee! Why was Kit sending me a gift? Who cares, I’ll take it!
I opened the letter and it told me that I hadn’t won a competition I had entered a while ago. Bummer! But as a consolation prize they had sent me a Kit Cosmetics Facial Sunscreen! Wooo! They also sent me a voucher to have my make-up done! Double Wooo!

What a lovely surprise. I love surprises, especially of the gift variety! Thanks Kit!

Same Outfit – Make sure you look better!

Have you ever been out somewhere and find out that you have turned up in exactly the same thing as someone else? Thankfully I never have, but that’s why when you do go out, you have to make it worthwhile and make sure you look amazing. You never know when someone might turn up wearing the same thing – and you do not want them to look better than you do! Let’s face it, if anyone is wearing the same thing, we are going to decide who we think looks better. So make sure it is going to be you!

How do you rate these celebs?

The Buried Life – What do you want to do before you die?

Have you been watching the buried life? I have been and it’s a really sweet show. I must admit the only reason I tuned in the first time was because I heard one of the guys was dating Whitney Port from The City. Love her! I had no idea what The Buried Life was even about.

Four mates – Duncan, Ben, Dave and Jonnie – travel the globe in a purple bus to complete a list of ‘100 things to do before you die’. They also help and encourage others to create their own lists and go after their dreams.
For every item they complete on their list, they help a stranger achieve one of their dreams. Everywhere they go they ask the question: What do you want to do before you die?

They are a great group of guys and really make you ponder about what you want out of life. It does tug at the heart-strings when they ask random people what they want to achieve from their lives. The everyday people they meet along their journey are really kind and giving and help them achieve the items on their list as well as the dreams of people they have never met. It makes you feel as though there are still nice people willing to lend a hand out there. It really is inspiring and I find myself having a bit of a sook in almost every episode.

So, what do you want to do before you die?

Think about it. It’s hard to say when you’re put on the spot.  I am going to start my list with:

1. Visit the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
2. Sit front row at New York Fashion week.
3. Sit front row at an LA Lakers basketball game.
4. Go shopping on Melrose Drive.
5. Throw an amazing and fabulous dinner party.
6. Re-new my vows in Las Vegas for my 10 year anniversary.
7. Purchase a pair of Christian Louboutons.
8. Assist in a photo shoot as a makeup artist.
9. Adopt an animal.
10. Find a brilliant recipe for crème brulee and make it.

You can start your own list on The Buried Life website. Life is short, so start living it.

Shopping… it’s what I do

You might have noticed that I did not blog at all the week before last. I was on annual leave from work and basically shopped till I dropped. I had no time to blog, too much shopping was to be done. I visited some of my favourite shopping destinations including Southland, Chadstone, Knox City, Fountain Gate and Frankston.

I have been focusing lately on updating my wardrobe. I have been buying lots of makeup and nail polish recently, so I decided that my wardrobe was in desperate need of some attention. I felt like all my clothes were either worn out or I was so over them. I literally had nothing to wear!

This is the perfect time of year to go shopping. It is the end of financial year and the sales are insane! The best part is that they go on for well over a month. The other best part is that when it becomes the beginning of the financial year they have sales for that too! I love a sale. It’s all about how much you save, not how much you spend. Right!? Well I have saved heaps so far! Yes, that’s right – so far – which means there is much more saving to be done!

City Chic is one of my fave stores at the moment. I just love their clothes, they are great quality and when they have a sale, they have my kind of sale! I basically own their entire store at the moment! I have accumulated a lot of bargains over the past few weeks. These are some of the highlights that I have accumulated within the past couple of months:

Rusty Jumper [Osmosis] – $89.95. I love boys jumpers. They are so much more comfy and warm.

I haven’t taken pictures of these, however I also purchased:
Black long 3/4 sleeve cardi – $20 (was $49.95)
Purple V neck 3/4 sleeve top – $20 (was $49.95)
Ring [City Chic] – $5 (was $19.95)
Set of 3 hoop Earrings [City Chic] – $10 (was $19.95)
Black Flats [KMART] – $10

I also threw in a few pairs of leggings (can’t live without them).

The pictures aren’t that great, I took them last night in my closet. The light isn’t great, but I think they look really nice and quite flattering on. The jumpers are comfy and so warm in the winter months and are generally worn at home.

I feel like my new wardrobe really reflects who I am now. Lately, I felt as though I wasn’t my stylish and fabulous self. Along with a fresh haircut, it’s nice to see me again and I really am feeling a little bit fabulous!
