Shopping… it’s what I do

You might have noticed that I did not blog at all the week before last. I was on annual leave from work and basically shopped till I dropped. I had no time to blog, too much shopping was to be done. I visited some of my favourite shopping destinations including Southland, Chadstone, Knox City, Fountain Gate and Frankston.

I have been focusing lately on updating my wardrobe. I have been buying lots of makeup and nail polish recently, so I decided that my wardrobe was in desperate need of some attention. I felt like all my clothes were either worn out or I was so over them. I literally had nothing to wear!

This is the perfect time of year to go shopping. It is the end of financial year and the sales are insane! The best part is that they go on for well over a month. The other best part is that when it becomes the beginning of the financial year they have sales for that too! I love a sale. It’s all about how much you save, not how much you spend. Right!? Well I have saved heaps so far! Yes, that’s right – so far – which means there is much more saving to be done!

City Chic is one of my fave stores at the moment. I just love their clothes, they are great quality and when they have a sale, they have my kind of sale! I basically own their entire store at the moment! I have accumulated a lot of bargains over the past few weeks. These are some of the highlights that I have accumulated within the past couple of months:

Rusty Jumper [Osmosis] – $89.95. I love boys jumpers. They are so much more comfy and warm.

I haven’t taken pictures of these, however I also purchased:
Black long 3/4 sleeve cardi – $20 (was $49.95)
Purple V neck 3/4 sleeve top – $20 (was $49.95)
Ring [City Chic] – $5 (was $19.95)
Set of 3 hoop Earrings [City Chic] – $10 (was $19.95)
Black Flats [KMART] – $10

I also threw in a few pairs of leggings (can’t live without them).

The pictures aren’t that great, I took them last night in my closet. The light isn’t great, but I think they look really nice and quite flattering on. The jumpers are comfy and so warm in the winter months and are generally worn at home.

I feel like my new wardrobe really reflects who I am now. Lately, I felt as though I wasn’t my stylish and fabulous self. Along with a fresh haircut, it’s nice to see me again and I really am feeling a little bit fabulous!

My Sunday Funday

I had an excellent shopping day yesterday. I actually had an excellent weekend overall.

Saturday started with a lovely sleep-in. My husband didn’t even wake me up like he usually does which was amazing and unbelievable. He never sleeps in. He usually comes in and out of our room and slams the door shut all morning. He sometimes accidently lets the dogs in who will jump on me while I’m trying to sleep or he will just try to have a chat. Saturday mornings are sleep time for me. This is the time for catching up on all the sleep I missed out on during the week because I unfortunately have to work to be able to live and also because of Underbelly, Gossip Girl, Project Runway and Top Model which keep me up till all hours during the week. I need my sleep in to recharge and to be able to function again and of course have enough energy to go shopping!

So I caught up on a little bit of housework and washing on Saturday. I know, not very fabulous, but these things must be done. I then headed down to L & L Shoes late that afternoon. I have been thinking about these shoes I saw in there a few months ago and just couldn’t get them out of my head. So I decided the only way to stop thinking about them was to just go down there and buy them. Imagine my devastation when the straps dug in to my toes. Now, I am all about fashion is pain but these were ridiculous. I walked around the rest of the shop for ages but couldn’t find anything else I liked. I hate it when I have money burning a hole in my pocket and my shopping habit was seriously annoyed. The shops had now closed and I hadn’t bought anything!

I was meeting my friends for dumplings and pumpkin cakes at David & Camy’s (amazing!) on Station Street in Box Hill for an early dinner, so I was obviously fabulously late, sorry! The food was fantastic and so was the company. Afterward, I went on to a friend’s birthday.

I woke up Sunday morning still feeling vaguely disappointed with my devastating shopping trip on Saturday. I got up and looked in the mirror and decided that my eyebrows seriously needed urgent attention. So I decided to finally pay a visit to the Benefit Brow Bar in Myer at Chadstone. I was very excited for another days shopping and hopeful that it would be better than Saturday.

I got to the Benefit Cosmetics counter and they slid me straight in for a brow arch wax. I was a little embarrassed as my eyebrows were pretty messy and screaming for some grooming. Fiona gave me a hand-held mirror to watch the whole process and went through what would suit me, the thickness and where my brows should start, finish and arch. I was spot on except for the fact that the last time I had my eyebrows waxed, the girl had waxed one shorter than the other. Fiona fixed it all up and I will definitely be going back. After the waxing was done she applied some antiseptic cream and then re-applied my makeup for me. She put on some powder which toned down the redness. I’m lucky that I don’t get really red anyway. She also showed me a fantastic Benefit brow pencil (A$39) which glided on smoothly. I will definitely be purchasing this next time. She then applied Benefit High Brow (A$39) to my brow bone which really opened up my eyes. It was equally fantastic and has been definitely sold for next time. The Brow Arch wax was A$25. I did think that this was a little expensive but she really did do an amazing job. Next time I will get a lip wax (A$15) as well as a brow arch wax – together this is only A$35. I also received a loyalty card which gives you a free brow arch wax after 8 services.

Seeing as I was at Chadstone anyway, I had to drop in at OPI in DJ’s. I bought La Paz-itively Hot. It’s a hot pink colour and it is HOT!

Overall, a very productive weekend and a satisfying shopping trip.
I hope everyone else had a fabulous weekend!

There are people who don’t like shopping?

It has been brought to my attention that there are people out there that don’t like shopping. It’s true. These alien beings exist in our material world and they are certainly not material girls. I find excuses to go shopping, they find any excuse not to. I just cannot comprehend this. What is wrong with these people? They are definitely not my people.

A few of my friends have recently admitted to me that they don’t actually like shopping. Shocking, I know! I’m not sure how we have been friends for so long and I hadn’t realised this. I just cannot think why they wouldn’t like it. What did we actually talk about up until I was assaulted with the news that they didn’t like to shop. Do we still have anything in common? Can we get past this? What have they been wearing in all the time we have been friends? I must have been too wrapped up in my own shopping expeditions to notice.  They have never been my shopping buddies, so I really should have caught on a lot earlier. I generally like to shop solo unless I’m in the mood for a stroll and not on a mission for something in particular. If I need a second opinion I choose my shopping companions very seriously. I cannot be rushed, and I will always show the same courtesy to my fellow shoppers.

I asked my friends if shopping had done anything to them in particular. Was there a reason they hated it so much? Did they get RSI in their hands from carrying too many bags? Did they get shin splints from walking around the shops for too long? Do they suffer from Agoraphobia – fear of shops and open spaces? What could possibly make them hate my favourite thing so much?

Apparently there is no big reason. Basically, they just can’t be bothered. Can’t be bothered? Now this is definitely a foreign concept to me. I am totally out of my depth here. The only thing in my world that stops me shopping is lack of funds. I have back-up plans though. Oh, no cash – Do you take credit card? Sold! I can justify any purchase. Seriously, try me.  If I literally don’t have any cash or cards left, I can always window shop for next time.

Nothing can deter me from satisfying my shopping and spending needs. So what, I love shopping, I’m superficial… whatever. It makes me happy.

Op-shopper… I am not

I am a dedicated shopper. I would even say that I am an experienced shopper. I can walk into a store, quickly give it the once over and decide whether or not they will have what I am looking for. If I think they have what I’m looking for, watch out! I can be in there for hours. When I tell my husband that my type of shopping is definitely a form of cardio, he just laughs. It’s true though, shopping is cardio and I’m sure that a lot of you would agree. I have been known to visit more than 4 shopping centres all in one day. I am even lusting over pink license plates at the moment that say SHOPPA. They are still available, so don’t even think about stealing it! This is how committed I am to all things shopping.

The only thing I can’t get into is op-shopping. My sister is an op-shopperaholic. I must have missed this ‘jean’ – see what I did there?! I can’t help but think about who wore these clothes before me. I think of a disgusting pervert that hasn’t showered in… well ever. My sister thinks of someone fabulous and the fact that it has been dry-cleaned anyway. I have tried to get into it and have visited many opportunity shops before. The thing is, when you walk into an op-shop there is no mistaking the smell. They all have the same smell – musty, crusty and ‘pre-loved’. I love to rummage through racks of clothing with the best of them, but at an op-shop I think of the smell and it has to be coming from somewhere. I almost cried when I saw a jacket with sweat patches stained under the arms. I don’t want to breathe in through my nose because it smells so bad, but I also don’t want to breathe in through my mouth in case the germs get in.

I am all for a bargain, but I just can’t get past these issues. I don’t know why. I would have thought that it would be enough when my sister came home with a Review Dress (A$8), MNG Dress (A$6), French Connection dress (A$10), Grip Jeans (A$4), Levi’s jeans (A$6) Jag T-shirt (A$3), Lee Miller Shirt (A$5), Escada Jacket (A$12), Original Nike Air High-Tops (A$4) – All for under $60!!

I’m pretty sure that if you told me a celebrity had worn it before I would make an acceptation. This is where good vintage stores really could take advantage of me. I am extremely gullible and would believe almost anything. Oh, Sarah Jessica Parker wore that? Sold! Then the credit card bill would come through at the end of the month and I would look at how much I actually spent on something that SJP probably never did wear.

So my unfortunate habit of all things having to be hygienic and my over-active imagination will make sure that my shopping and spending habits will not always have a lot to show for themselves like a committed op-shopper would.

Here are some good op-shops if you dare. Keep an eye out when you are out shopping. The little ones and the forgotten ones are the best ones. They always have the best stuff as nobody has found them yet.

Secret Shoe Business…

A friend of mine used to work in Box Hill and introduced me to this amazing shoe shop a couple of years ago. I thought I would pass on this little discovery to the rest of you. There is a little shoe shop located in Box Hill called L & L Shoes. Heard of it? If you have stumbled across this place before you will understand that this place is a shoe shoppers delight.

The shop doesn’t look like much from the outside, but when you walk in you can see it is jam-packed with heels, pumps, platforms, sandals, flats from brands like Tony Bianco, Therapy, RMK and even Doc Martins  etc. The list is endless and equally fabulous!

I have purchased many shoes in my time. Some of them my husband knows about and some of them I hope he doesn’t  know about! I have found some amazing bargains and quite a few ‘what was I thinking??’ moments. I am an impulse buyer and can’t help myself. If I have to have something – I have to have it NOW and then regret it later!
I have never had a moment I’d rather forget at L & L shoes and find they stock great quality and affordable shoes. The last pair from here that I was lucky enough to have purchased for me by my best friend were bridesmaids shoes for her wedding. Extremely proud to be head bridesmaid and very excited to wear these shoes. They are ba-na-nas! (I just hope I don’t fall over!) They are by Therapy and were only $50! Yes, only $50! The Therapy website where you can buy them directly were $70. Bargain – check!

Bridesmaids Shoes - Therapy

I absolutely love a bargain and you will definitely find one (or three) here. Shoe shopping is the best shopping and will always make you feel a million bucks. A shoe will always fit no matter what sort of day you are having. So – check it out!

Pimp my Closet

I have discovered the most amazing application for my iPhone! It’s AH-MAZ-ING! It’s called Stylish Girl and is basically a style planner revolving around the clothes you have in your closet and the clothes you would love to have in your closet. It keeps all your clothes and accessories organised and right at your fingertips anywhere, anytime.

I spent this weekend cleaning out my closet (again!) and throwing out everything I haven’t worn in ages (again!). I have also been taking photos of all my clothes, shoes, handbags, jewellery and accessories for my new online closet and filing it into one of four categories (tops/dresses, bottoms, shoes and accessories) then giving them each a title. There are even categories based on the time of year and if it is dressy or casual. You can create a list of items for your next trip (no more overpacking or leaving anything behind!) or you can mix and match to create amazing outfits or even place items in a wish-list that you might want to splurge on with your next pay-check.
I have too many days where I have ‘nothing to wear’. I can now just scroll through my online closet and never again forget about that awesome top hiding at the back of my draw. I will never again buy something similar to what I already own. It saves time and money.

Stylish Girl iPhone App

I feel just like Cher in Clueless! Beyond excited. If you don’t have an iPhone you could design your own program by taking photo’s and saving them in a separate folder on your phone or computer.

Happy Fashion Days Dolls!
