Australia’s Next Top Model Oopsie-daisy!

I was watching Australia’s Next Top Model live on Tuesday night. I voted 3 times for Amanda and I really wanted Amanda and Sophie as the top 2 finalists. When Sarah Murdoch called Kelsey’s name first, I was shocked! I was also concerned that Amanda wouldn’t be picked next.

Thankfully, she was and we were left with two nervous finalists on stage. There could only be one winner – too bad they called out the wrong name!

The host, Sarah Murdoch announced the winner as Kelsey Martinovich. Kelsey went on to make an emotional speech of appreciation and gratitude for the show. The runner-up Amanda Ware smiled, clapped, congratulated the winner and thanked the show for the opportunity.

This was until a flash of horror crossed Sarah Murdoch’s face and she gave a tiny gasp. Poor Sarah looked as though she might faint. The audience of 2000 fell silent as Sarah said, “Oh my God, I don’t know what to say right now.” “I’m feeling a bit sick about this. No, I’m so sorry about this. Oh my God. I don’t know what to say. It’s a complete accident. I’m so sorry, it’s Amanda.”

Kelsey immediately responds with, “It’s an honest mistake.” She doesn’t cry or go for the sympathy vote. I really do have to give her a good pat on the back for the way she handled the situation.
Amanda looked slightly embarrassed, however broke the tension by giving a small whoop and smiling. The audience started laughing and a small applause was given to the well-deserved winner.

Sarah explained that the voting was so close and that it kept going back and forth between the two girls. Apparently Amanda won by only 3 votes. I like to think that my 3 votes got her over the line!

I didn’t love Kelsey during the show, I actually thought she was a bit of a bi-atch at times. However both these girls were innocent and had nothing to do with this little oopsie-daisy. They both handled the situation with grace, dignity and professionalism.

As the winner, Amanda was signed to modeling agency Priscilla’s and will fly to New York to meet with the Elite agency. She also won a $25,000 contract to appear in a Levi’s campaign and landed the cover and an eight-page spread for Harper’s Bazaar Australia.

Due to the mix up, Kelsey was given $25,000 cash prize and a trip to New York as compensation. She has now also been given her own Harper’s Bazaar cover which will be featured in the same edition as Amanda’s. The magazine decided that it would have two different covers printed for their next issue featuring Amanda on one and Kelsey on the other. The magazine will be split evenly between the two covers.

This actually annoys me a bit. Amanda still won Australia’s Next Top Model but she has to share her major prize. A magazine cover is a big deal and I don’t think I would be quite as gracious if I had to share it. It seems that Foxtel and Harper’s have made sure Kelsey is looked after, but have they really done the same for Amanda?
Amanda missed out on the huge round of applause she deserved as the winner. She missed out on her win being all about her. She has basically been put on the back-burner while everyone is still going on about the mix up. Ok, we were shocked – but let’s move on. Who cares if Kelsey didn’t win – they have certainly made up for it.
Go Amanda, you got my vote… or 3!

Hi dolls,

This lucky lady was so sweet, she made sure that I didn’t miss out! I received a Sex and the City mug from the tour in the post a few days ago! I love presents! The mug has a quote from the series that I actually live by – ‘Shopping is my cardio’. So generous, thankyou so much! I’m so glad you enjoyed the tour. Secret Indulgence – Top Model

Well, it’s not so secret anymore. Australia’s Next Top Model has just begun on Foxtel and I have not missed one fabulous episode.

The series follows a group of girls as they try to prove that they have what it takes to become a top model.
Auditions were held around the country earlier this year where 16 wannabe models were chosen to star in the sixth series of Australia’s Next Top Model.
The girls are transformed week-to-week from young girls into potential working models. They are thrown into various challenges, catwalk and fashion and beauty photo shoots.
Supermodel Sarah Murdoch is the host of Cycle 6 and also leads the panel of judges which include fashion designer Alex Perry, fashion identity Charlotte Dawson and fashion photographer Jez Smith.
Each week, the judges deliberate and assess the performance and potential of each model finally narrowing them down until only 1 model remains and becomes Australia’s Next Top Model.
The winner will take home a prize package including:
Representation by Australia’s premiere modelling agency Priscilla’s.
$25,000 contract to appear in a campaign and to be the face of iconic jeans brand Levi’s.
A trip to New York to meet with one of the world’s top agencies, ELITE New York.
 A stunning Ford Fiesta Zetec.
$20,000 cash thanks to Platinum from U by Kotex
A cover and eight-page spread for the fashion bible, Harper’s Bazaar Australia.

I love Next Top Model – America’s, Australia’s and even New Zealand’s. I love them all and watch them all. As I am reading this back, my voice has changed into Tyra Banks. If you have watched Tyra on America’s Next Top Model you will understand how I am talking. Think fierce. WHO, will be America’s (Australia’s) Next Top Model? Hola!!!

I always pick my favourites early (Amanda & Kathryn) and I always pick the ones I loathe and can’t stand even earlier (Kimberly & Kelsey). Let’s face it, the model world is cut-throat, vicious, bitchy and full of back-stabbing, so why fight it? If we all liked each other it would be a very boring world.

I love the bitchiness of reality TV. Love it. The drama, the tears and the tantrums. I watch some of these ‘models’ and think – I could totally do that way better! In reality, I probably couldn’t (well ok, no I couldn’t) – but on reality TV, I so could! If you’re on a reality TV show you just have to go for it. Nobody likes the whingy whiny kids, we like the kids that get out there and give it a good go – unless they’re arrogant and cocky about it. This will take them straight to my ‘can’t stand them’ list.

You can even use reality TV in well, reality. You can use it in everyday life. If you find that your acting a little shy, childish, spoilt or frustrated, take a second to think about it. If you were on a reality show, what would you think of yourself and the way that you are acting.

Life’s too short for all the drama in real life. Save it for your reality show!

The Buried Life – What do you want to do before you die?

Have you been watching the buried life? I have been and it’s a really sweet show. I must admit the only reason I tuned in the first time was because I heard one of the guys was dating Whitney Port from The City. Love her! I had no idea what The Buried Life was even about.

Four mates – Duncan, Ben, Dave and Jonnie – travel the globe in a purple bus to complete a list of ‘100 things to do before you die’. They also help and encourage others to create their own lists and go after their dreams.
For every item they complete on their list, they help a stranger achieve one of their dreams. Everywhere they go they ask the question: What do you want to do before you die?

They are a great group of guys and really make you ponder about what you want out of life. It does tug at the heart-strings when they ask random people what they want to achieve from their lives. The everyday people they meet along their journey are really kind and giving and help them achieve the items on their list as well as the dreams of people they have never met. It makes you feel as though there are still nice people willing to lend a hand out there. It really is inspiring and I find myself having a bit of a sook in almost every episode.

So, what do you want to do before you die?

Think about it. It’s hard to say when you’re put on the spot.  I am going to start my list with:

1. Visit the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
2. Sit front row at New York Fashion week.
3. Sit front row at an LA Lakers basketball game.
4. Go shopping on Melrose Drive.
5. Throw an amazing and fabulous dinner party.
6. Re-new my vows in Las Vegas for my 10 year anniversary.
7. Purchase a pair of Christian Louboutons.
8. Assist in a photo shoot as a makeup artist.
9. Adopt an animal.
10. Find a brilliant recipe for crème brulee and make it.

You can start your own list on The Buried Life website. Life is short, so start living it.
