Throw away your foundation brushes – there’s a new brush in town! The Duo Optic brush also referred to as a Stippler brush or Skunk Brush is ah-maz-ing! The brush has natural and synthetic bristles and is made of goat hair and fibre optics.
187 Duo Fibre brush $85 – This is a large full circular brush used for lightweight application and blending of face powder, bronzers, blushes or pigments.
188 Small Duo Fibre Face Brush $70 – This is a flat-topped, full circular brush used for lightweight application and blending of fluid, cream, powder or pigment.
The 187 brush is fantastic for powder foundation, blushes and bronzers. The 188 brush is fantastic for liquid foundation, cream blushes and highlighters.
Start by applying your foundation by tapping (stippling) over the desired areas. Use this technique rather than a sweeping motion usually used. I was a bit hesitant at first, but the results speak for themselves. I have also found that I am not using as much makeup as I usually do. Both brushes create soft layers and textures and give a lighter and more airbrushed look.
Mac does make a good quality brush, however it is not always about having a brand name tool. I find it is as much about your technique and application. You don’t have to fork out a huge amount of money for these brushes. If you are prepared for a knock-off copy you can buy them from cheaper online stores and eBay. I still think they are good quality, just not the quality of a really good brand.
