I think that what I often see is that people are freightened of fashion and that because it scares them, or it makes them feel insecure, they put it down. – Anna Wintour, Editor-in-chief US Vogue, The September Issue.
I woke up this morning and checked my twitter to see if anything interesting was happening. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw that Alexander McQueen was dead! This must be some kind of joke. It feels like every other week someone I respect and who has had an influence on me and inspired me in some way has died.
The British founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand was found dead in his home. He was only 40 years old and at the peak of his success. There is no news about how McQueen was discovered however his death was not suspicious. Some websites have stated that he committed suicide by allegedly hanging himself. McQueen’s publicists and police are yet to confirm this.
McQueen’s unique pieces were treasured and seen on the red carpet by many style icons. He was an extremely talented designer, daring and fearless and made such a statement in his short career. Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour called McQueen “one of the greatest talents of his generation.” We all know that she is a tough woman to please.
He remarked on his twitter recently that his mother had passed away, but life must go on!!!!! A few days before his death he tweeted that he had had an awful week and said he had to ‘some how pull myself together and finish’. Four days later he was dead.
Just shocking and a huge loss to his family and the fashion industry. Rest in Peace.
