GHD… Great Hair Day!

I have finally bought a ghd IV styler!! In the past, the only time I let one of these babies near my hair was at the hairdressers. The reason being that I didn’t want to fall in love with it, because then I would have to have one. I thought it would be ok to use at the hairdressers because your hair always looks great after your hairdresser has been playing with it anyway. It wasn’t ok though and pretty soon I had to have one, in fact I needed one! Now that I have my ghd – I love it – it is amazing – I am obsessed – I would probably die without it.

No, I haven’t been slow with the program this time, it was just one of those things that I never thought I could have. When would I have a spare $300 to buy a hair straightener? I am the type of person that will spend their last $20 on a nail polish, so I resigned myself to the fact a long time ago that I am not a saver and I would probably never own a ghd. However, I did manage to scrimp away a few bucks every week to put towards my very own ghd. To avoid spending my money on useless but absolutely neccessary essentials, obviously, I handed over my hard-earned cash to my husband for safe keeping. He was ordered that under no circumstances was he to give it back to me, no matter what I said, until I had enough to purchase my ghd. Even if there was a sale at Mimco or Mecca or Wittner! (Damn, what was I thinking?). If Chanel ever had a sale though, that would be a totally different story! My lovely husband did help me out though (quite a lot actually, after I started saving) with my wonderful purchase – thanks! I told him that he can use it any time he likes! xo

I thought that my last hair straightener was pretty good – until I got my ghd. Did I mention I have a ghd? After using my… ghd… my hair has never been healthier. I don’t know how this fabulous creation does it but when I straighten my hair it actually makes it look and feel healthy and glossy from the roots to the ends. The ends don’t look damaged and my hair doesn’t look dead anymore, it has a gorgeous shine to it. I’m not just saying that either to justify my purchase, it really is that amazing.

The ghd IV Mini Styler A$279.00 – Ideal for short hair, men’s hair, tight curls, flicks and fringes.

The ghd IV Styler A$299.00 – This is the ultimate all-rounder. It is extremely versatile and perfect for straightening, curling, flicking, twisting, movement volume and styling any way you want. It is also great for any hair length.

The ghd IV Salon Styler A$299.00 –  Great for long and thick hair. Creates larger and softer curls.

All these stylers feature:
– New rounder barrel which makes it easier to create perfect curls, waves, flicks or perfectly straight hair.
– Safety Feature: Built in sleep mode that let’s you rest easy. It will turn off automatically if left unattended for 30 minutes.
– Universal voltage so you can travel anywhere with it.
– Digital technology controls the temperature more quickly.
– Advanced ceramic heaters and aluminium plates for smooth and static free shine.
– Heats up and is ready to go in seconds.
– 2 year warranty.

Ghd have a new limited edition colour collection in the ghd IV styler range. So you can make a statement not only with your hair but also with your styler. They are A$309.00. Expensive yes, but worth every dime.

Which colour are you? Are you Red Lust, Blue Serenity, Purple Indulgence or Green Envy?

My favourite colour is purple and I certainly like to indulge, obviously! So the purple indulgence ghd was a perfect match for me.
The limited edition ghd IV Styler in the colour of your choice also comes with a quilted heat-resistant styler pouch and a protective case.

Make sure you visit the ghd website to buy yourself one online or search the nearest salon to you. This is one thing I wouldn’t buy on eBay or at any other site apart from the ghd site. There are so many copies going around, I wouldn’t want to get ripped off.

Celebrity Crush: I heart Jay Manuel!

I’m sure you’ve all heard of him and have seen his lovely face on TV many times. Jay Manuel is a TV personality from America’s Next Top Model and the E! Network as well as numerous other projects. He is also the host of Canada’s Next Top Model and Style Her Famous.

Jay was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on August 14th, 1972. His spunky looks and amazing style come from his mother of Italian and Czech decent and South African father of  Malaysian and Dutch descent.

Jay Manuel

Before he wound up in the world of fashion, Jay was a pre-med student and studied opera! He then eventually became a makeup artist where he has worked with the likes of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Victoria’s Secret and Revlon. He has worked his magic on numerous celebrities and made them look amazing and he is even lucky enough to be the personal make-up artist for supermodel Tyra Banks. He has worked with some amazing photographers including Herb Ritts, Richard Avedon, Annie Leibovitz, and Francesco Scavullo.

Jay is a make-up artist, fashion photographer and model. His most recognisable role is the Art Director for photo shoots on reality show, America’s Next Top Model, hosted and produced by Tyra Banks. Affectionately known as Mr. Jay, his role on the show also includes being a makeup artist and a guest judge. I am a huge fan of Top Model and love watching Jay while he manages to transform these models from dull to glam in mere minutes. His designs for amazing photo shoots and runway shows are extraordinary.

Mr. Jay in Action!

Jay now hosts and is lead judge of the second and third cycle of Canada’s Next Top Model. He is the face of Match.com, the internet dating site and often appears on E! Network’s, Fashion Police and Live From the Red Carpet for the Academy Awards, The Grammys, The Golden Globes and The Primetime Emmy Awards.
Jay also hosts his own show on the Style Network called, Style Her Famous. This is a really fun makeover show where woman are styled to look like a celebrity they admire.
He has also introduced his own make-up line called Manuel Override which can be purchased on QVC. Unfortunately, QVC do not deliver to Australia yet so I will be looking out for this line on eBay (hopefully!).

Jay Manuel is my current celebrity crush. He is openly gay though, so I don’t think he will crushing back on me anytime soon!
Yes, I googled and this is the question – who is Jay Manuel’s boyfriend? Who knows, all I can say is that I really admire him and everything he has accomplished in his career so far and wish him well in all his future successes!

MAC Duo Fibre Brush #187 & #188

Throw away your foundation brushes – there’s a new brush in town! The Duo Optic brush also referred to as a Stippler brush or Skunk Brush is ah-maz-ing! The brush has natural and synthetic bristles and is made of goat hair and fibre optics.

187 Duo Fibre brush $85 – This is a large full circular brush used for lightweight application and blending of face powder, bronzers, blushes or pigments.

MAC 187 Duo Fibre brush $85

188 Small Duo Fibre Face Brush $70 – This is a flat-topped, full circular brush used for lightweight application and blending of fluid, cream, powder or pigment.

MAC 188 Small Duo Fibre Face Brush $70

The 187 brush is fantastic for powder foundation, blushes and bronzers. The 188 brush is fantastic for liquid foundation, cream blushes and highlighters.

Start by applying your foundation by tapping (stippling) over the desired areas. Use this technique rather than a sweeping motion usually used. I was a bit hesitant at first, but the results speak for themselves. I have also found that I am not using as much makeup as I usually do. Both brushes create soft layers and textures and give a lighter and more airbrushed look.

Mac does make a good quality brush, however it is not always about having a brand name tool. I find it is as much about your technique and application. You don’t have to fork out a huge amount of money for these brushes. If you are prepared for a knock-off copy you can buy them from cheaper online stores and eBay. I still think they are good quality, just not the quality of a really good brand.

LOVE: Stila #30 Double-ended Shadow brush

I bought this brush from eBay and it is AMAZING! A few months ago I used this brush during my makeup lesson at Mecca Cosmetica and came across it again on eBay.

Stila #30 Double-ended Shadow Brush

The bonus was it was also only half the price. I have bought almost all of my makeup brushes from eBay. At first I was worried that they wouldn’t be the real thing but I have found that all the brushes I have bought are of proffessional quality – and only a fraction of the cost!

This brush is really easy to use and blends to perfection. You can just slap a bit of eyeshadow on with the thicker side and easily blend with the other side. The results are fabulous and I could not recommend this brush enough.

I want Sephora!!

I am in totally in love with the magic of Sephora. However… the only place I can find any of these products is on eBay. I can’t believe Sephora don’t deliver to Australia. Never mind outrageous shipping charges – I don’t even have the choice to pay them! They seem to deliver to almost everywhere else in the world. I am completely devastated!

On my latest browse of their website I now really want to try the Kat Von D makeup and the Urban Decay heavy metal eyeliner that they stock. I visit the Sephora website from time to time to unfortunately see what isn’t available to me. I always find something new that I MUST HAVE and find myself getting frustrated that I can’t have it. A happy online shopping trip should end with just that – happiness, not frustration and sadness.

I guess I’ll have to keep on eBaying until Sephora get with the program and start shipping to Australia. I know that I’d definitely make it worth their while!

Drop me a line if you know of anywhere else I can get my hands on these goodies. 🙂

Fabulous Lashes

I am loving false eyelashes! I have always used the ModelCo individual false lashes and love them to bits, but flicking through my new Makeup book I got at the Xmas sales, I noticed there are a lot more looks to create with different kinds of lashes. So, for the last few days I made it my mission to find some fabulously flirty flutter me lashes. This mission came to an end a few days ago on eBay. Here I found myself an absolute bargain! Have I told you that I love eBay? I couldn’t believe how many different types there were.

Here is what I have ordered:

False Eyelashes - eBay

All these prices include shipping – can you believe it!? Insane! I can’t wait to get them and I will let you know how I go trying to apply them. Should be fun!

Come on eBay!

I am relatively new to selling on eBay. I find it really exciting and a little extra cash can never hurt anyone. Especially when people are buying the things that you just don’t want anymore.

I have been around the buying section for quite a few years now. The rush you experience the last 10 seconds of an auction is out of control. It’s exciting and when you win and you can’t help but feel lucky – just try to wipe the smile from my face!

I was recently selling a beautiful CUE white and green striped skirt with pockets on eBay. I had only worn it once – I don’t know why! Unfortunately there was only 1 bid and it sold for $14.99. An absolute steal. I was actually really upset that it only went for $14.99 as it really is a gorgeous skirt. This auction ended over 2 weeks ago and I am still waiting for payment. I would never bid on something unless I was prepared to pay for it. I think it’s really rude – so shame on you!

So, in the end I guess it was probably for the best. I think I would definitely rather keep it in my closet looking pretty instead of parting with it for a measly $14.99.
