Tote, Hobo, Clutch? Which one is it?

Have you noticed all the different types of bags and all the different names for them? I know everyone (especially me!) wants to at least look like they totally know what they are talking about, but sometimes it’s confusing. God forbid we refer to a bag incorrectly, that would be embarrassing.

So, here’s the difference:

Tote: The term tote means ‘to carry’. A tote bag is inspired by a shopping bag, which is sturdy and rectangular with an open top and two handles. The inside may have zip compartments. A tote is generally held in your hand or carried on your forearm or elbow.

Clutch: A small purse that is carried by the hand or tucked under your upper arm. No shoulder straps, although some come with detachable shoulder straps as an option or a wristlet loop at the end of the bag.

Hobo: Single shoulder strap. Worn on the shoulder. Shape of bag is normally large and slouchy.
The hobo usually a large unstructured bag with a slouchy posture and curving/half-moon shape with a long strap designed to wear over the shoulder. Hobo bags are made out of soft, flexible materials and tend to slouch. These bags are considered to be part of the Bohemian/boho-chic trend.

My new Charlie Brown Bag – Love!

I went shopping last night on a mission to find a handbag. I went to a few places but got sucked in at the Myer Sale with 30% off selected handbags. (awesome!)
I know, I already have my dream Chanel tote, but I want it to last at least 8 years. I originally justified the purchase of my Chanel bag by calculating the price I paid for my bag against how many times I would use it. So, in 8 years it will basically pay for itself. That adds up to about $1 a day. Who can’t afford that?
So I decided to look for another (but much cheaper) handbag to use for during the week. I found this gorgeous Charlie Brown bag. Originally A$129.95, down to A$90.30. Bargain! (Double awesome!)

What do you think?
What bags are you lusting over at the moment?

Pimp my Closet

I have discovered the most amazing application for my iPhone! It’s AH-MAZ-ING! It’s called Stylish Girl and is basically a style planner revolving around the clothes you have in your closet and the clothes you would love to have in your closet. It keeps all your clothes and accessories organised and right at your fingertips anywhere, anytime.

I spent this weekend cleaning out my closet (again!) and throwing out everything I haven’t worn in ages (again!). I have also been taking photos of all my clothes, shoes, handbags, jewellery and accessories for my new online closet and filing it into one of four categories (tops/dresses, bottoms, shoes and accessories) then giving them each a title. There are even categories based on the time of year and if it is dressy or casual. You can create a list of items for your next trip (no more overpacking or leaving anything behind!) or you can mix and match to create amazing outfits or even place items in a wish-list that you might want to splurge on with your next pay-check.
I have too many days where I have ‘nothing to wear’. I can now just scroll through my online closet and never again forget about that awesome top hiding at the back of my draw. I will never again buy something similar to what I already own. It saves time and money.

Stylish Girl iPhone App

I feel just like Cher in Clueless! Beyond excited. If you don’t have an iPhone you could design your own program by taking photo’s and saving them in a separate folder on your phone or computer.

Happy Fashion Days Dolls!

All I want for Christmas…

Can you keep a secret? Well, I haven’t actually started my Xmas shopping yet. I know, I know, I do this every year. I always wait until the last minute. It’s so stressful, I don’t know why I do it. Maybe that’s just it – the excitement and the rush of buying all the presents in one night for family and friends. I can just hand over the credit card.. Swipe.. Sold! I am very good at spending money and it really does give me a rush. I can hand that little plastic card to the sales assistant over and over and not even get in trouble for doing it! So spending hundreds of dollars in one night really does give me a thrill!

Even though I haven’t shopped for anyone else at the moment this hasn’t stopped me browsing online for myself. Oh no! I have been scrolling through the pages of eBay, Strawberry Net and Mecca Cosmetica just to name a few. I have even been dreaming in the online stores of Chanel and Jimmy Choo for a beautiful bag or a killer pair of heels!

Online shopping is the best. It fills up all my spare time when I’m bored and can’t find anything to do. I can even do it in my pyjamas! I don’t have to get dressed up and parade around the shops, especially at this time of year. I can just sit at my computer and browse for hours.
Although I do love online shopping there are some downfalls. Shipping charges can be pricey, but if you do your research you can find some sites who will ship for free! The other problem with shipping is that you have to wait to receive the item you have bought. I also never layby for this reason alone. I hate waiting for something I have already bought. I don’t like handing my hard earned cash over when I don’t get anything in return right that minute. I am very impatient and when I want something, I have to have it! When the item I have purchased finally arrives though I really am so excited. I’m getting a surprise present or it’s like I have bought something again.. For free!.. Sort of… well, not really… I guess I feel the same way when I’m shopping online. I can just enter my card details and then I’m done. SOLD! I’m not even spending real money right?! Well, not until the credit card bill comes in 60 days anyway!

So, here is a few things that are on my wish list so far for anyone who is feeling extremely generous or wants to wish for these items themselves:

I have given a few hints but I doubt I will be getting any of these this year. I intend to hit the sales after xmas and hopefully score some bargains!
